Lincoln to Springfield

Leaving Lincoln, it was onward to Springfield, the Capital of Illinois.

First passing through Broadwell,

Where I saw this old motel that has seen better days.

Next to the old motel is the old sign and marker for the Pig-Hip restaurant.

Continuing on, I came to Elkhart.

You can see a couple of old 'goodies' that I found in the window of a shop while hiding out from a rain storm. After the rain, it was on to Williamsville.

I found the Library in Williamsville is currently housed in the old Train Depot. This wonderful use of a historical building is to be short lived. AmTrak is putting in a high-speed line that will force at a minimum the moving of the building, but in all likelihood, its destruction from what I was told. While the town is breaking ground on a new library building it appears that there is not currently enough money available move move the build in order to save it. This will be a sad loss on Route 66. Unfortunately because the old Depot, when it was refurbished, had 'modern' siding put on, it does not qualify to be placed on the "National Register of Historical Places".

Before it was the library, it was used as a senior center. Come on Illinois, Amtrak and Williamsville... this building should be saved.
